The family of six is asking for help with out of pocket medical expenses incurred as a result of Olivia's hospital stay for a ruptured appendix and kidney problems. The infection from a ruptured appendix can be very serious. Olivia spent 24 hours in the emergency room and had open surgery to remove the ruptured appendix. Following the surgery she spent 5 days in the hospital on antibiotics and for observation. She has since fully recovered from this surgery. We are grateful to the doctors and the surgical team at Good Shepherd Hospital for such a great job with her. We are also very grateful to the people who helped us the the large out of pocket expenses for this hospital stay.
In addition to the ruptured appendix, when the CT scan was performed the technician noticed two cystic masses on her kidney. A follow up MRI was recommended and performed to confirm the mass and also to determine the nature of the cysts. We chose to have the kidney specialists at Children's Memorial Hospital evaluate the scans of her kidney. After an MRI and several ultrasounds we doctor's have diagnosed her with renal cystic lesions that have to be tested regularly since a biopsy is too risky.
Along with an emotional roller coaster that this situation creates we also face a large financial responsibility. A medical fund account has been set up in her name to help pay for the bills related to her condition. We are asking for donations to help with the large out of pocket medical expenses. Even a very small amount will help our family of six pay for the medical bills.
